Resident Evil Village Is Coming to Nintendo Switch

Nintendo revealed during the recent Direct that the critically-acclaimed 2021 title, Resident Evil Village, is coming to Nintendo Switch consoles this fall.

The game will be a cloud version; something Nintendo has done before with several games, as it’s the only way for the underpowered console to run more modern graphically-demanding titles. What this means is that the game won’t actually be downloaded on your Switch. Instead, it will be streamed to your device via the internet, meaning you’ll need a good connection to avoid latency issues. Resident Evil Village will release on Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022.

A free demo is available to download right now on the Nintendo eShop. An appropriate complement to a cloud-only game, for this way, fans can test if it’s worth playing with the internet speed they have, without having to commit to paying anything. Nintendo also announced that the previously revealed Winter’s Expansion will be available for Switch on December 2, 2022.

This will have a 2-month time difference in release compared to other platforms, where the expansion is set to launch October 28, coincidentally, the same day that the base game comes out on Switch. This DLC includes an additional campaign story called Shadows of Rose, where you’ll play as the daughter of Resident Evil 7 and 8’s main character, Ethan. Capcom explains how 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village, Rose is struggling with her frightening powers, and she enters a mysterious realm of twisted nightmares in order to find the answers she’s looking for. The DLC also includes a third-person mode for use in both the base game and in Shadows of Rose.

And that’s not all. Relatively recent titles like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Resident Evil 3 Remake, will all be getting cloud versions on Switch soon. No specific release dates were given, but it was stated that all games would drop before the end of 2022. Back in Summer Game Fest, Capcom revealed a remake for Resident Evil 4 and slated its release date for March 24, 2023. No information has been relayed regarding this game coming to Switch, but this announcement does suggest the possibility of a Switch cloud version.
