Chizuru and the other leasable ladies return this summer.

The official Twitter account for the Rent-A-Girlfriend anime has confirmed the release window for the third season of the series, which will be coming this July. The announcement has not confirmed an exact date.

The anime adaptation of Reiji Miyajima’s Rent-A-Girlfriend manga released its first season, which ran for twelve episodes, back in July 2020. A second season was then announced, which aired starting on July 2 of last year, for another twelve episodes. The first two seasons both streamed on Crunchyroll as they were released, making it seem likely that this third season will do the same.

Rent-A-Girlfriend tells the story of Kazuya Kinoshita, a down-on-his-luck lonely college student who gets involved with Rental Girlfriend Chizuru Mizuhara. The two wind up having to present themselves as an actual couple due to misunderstandings. Various circumstances also conspire to get Kazuya involved with other girls, including his schemer of an ex-girlfriend, Mami Nanami, as well as additional rental girlfriends Sarashina Ruka and Sakurasawa Sumi. This, naturally, complicates all matters for Kazuya and Chizuru, with the second season indicating that Mami was catching onto the couple’s deceptions while they worked on a plan to advance Chizuru’s aspiring acting career.

Accompanying the release window announcement, a new key visual for the season was released, featuring the four main heroines of the series. It has also been confirmed that the director for seasons 1 and 2, Koga Kazuomi, will be stepping down from the role, with episode director Une Shinya filling his shoes for this third season.

If the popularity holds out, the anime version of Rent-A-Girlfriend could likely continue well past this third season. The original manga, which launched in 2017, has published 30 compiled volumes and is still going. The series also spawned a mobile game tie-in titled Rent-A-Girlfriend ~ Heroine All Stars ~, released in July 2021. The game included guest characters from other manga which ran in the same magazine as Rent-A-Girlfriend. However, it was only available in Japan, and was recently shut down as of January of this year.
