Remnant 2 Treats Fans to 9 Minutes of Raw Gameplay

Gunfire Games just released about 9 minutes of new gameplay footage for Remnant 2. There is no commentary, no unnecessary cuts, and no trailer nonsense. Just pure unedited gameplay, including the HUD.

The footage gave us a look at the Gunslinger, Handler, and the new Challenger Archetypes. While the footage looks already quite good and polished, it was taken directly from an older build that has already received changes since its collection. Fans of the third-person shooter-souls-like are in for a treat.

Up for a Challenge

Before anything, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the newly introduced Challenger Archetype. Gameplay footage revealed a heavily armored warrior who uses his thundering voice to literally shout at his enemies. His beckons incite such a challenge that he can create stunning shockwaves. The Challenger can literally scream at you from across the room, and you’d still get knocked back.

A SINGULAR STRIKE!!

Being knocked down by enemies is also just a little bit of a nuisance, as the Challenger can just scream at the top of his lungs to revive himself. With another thundering yell, he can fully restore his HP from a downed state, stunning nearby lesser foes. Aside from that, we didn’t really get to see any Challenger-specific abilities, but the two were glorious.

In terms of weaponry, the Challenger seems to make use primarily of a sort of shotgun that doesn’t use puny bullets. Instead, it sends out a linear shockwave that blasts enemies with concentrated force. Talk about yelling even with your firearms.

Lastly, the Challenger also employs the use of a gigantic broadsword. It actually looks as if it has tons of saw blades, just like a Space Marine’s chainsword. He also puts this weapon to good use, as enemies don’t seem to be a match for this sturdy warrior.

A Remnant’s Best Friend

We also got an extended look at the Handler and his fluffy Doggo companion. As previously mentioned, the Doggo will have three modes: Attack, Support, and Defend which are all pretty self-explanatory. However, it looks like we can actually select our canine friend’s target, ordering them to sink their teeth into a specific foe you need distracted.

The Perfect Companion

The dog’s bite is also much worse than his bark. Our companion can definitely hold their own in combat, as their bite attacks can reliably cause bleeding to stack on enemies, making it seem that this damage type would synergize well with the Handler themselves. The doggo’s jaws also must be pretty tired, as they keep chomping down on the various Root enemies.

One point of criticism from the footage though was that the dog companion’s health bar was exactly the same as those of your enemies, which could cause confusion. Even though the dog has a small icon that represents his current behavior mode, confusion can be had in the heat of battle. Gunfire Games did confirm on Reddit though that this has already been changed in their internal build of Remnant 2.

Remnant 2: Back to Basics

Finally, we also got an extended look at the Gunslinger archetype and his guns blazin’. The Quick Draw ability in particular looks like a fun flurry of bullets from the Gunslinger’s trusty revolver. Also, they can create elemental damage out of the blue it seems. Need to deal a burst of fire damage? Just burn the barrel of your gun so the bullets burn on the way out. The best solutions are often the most simple.

The Gunslinger’s gameplay was also capped off with one of Remnant 2’s bosses, the “Mother Mind”. Essentially a floating crab hybrid, the Mother Mind uses its claws to slam into the ground while also destroying the environment. Just like From the Ashes, it looks like boss fights will still include the summoning of minions in order to mess with the player throughout the fight. Thankfully, it looks like the overall number of adds seems to be reduced from the first game, letting us focus more on the actual boss fight.

The Rising of Remnant 2

Remnant 2 doesn’t have a specific release date just yet, but if the gameplay footage is anything to go by, then what is it is already quite polished. The new upcoming Archetype system looks to be extremely flexible in terms of creating the perfect dealer of death that you want.
