‘Prison Architect 2’ delayed following ‘Cities: Skylines 2’ issues

Paradox Interactive has confirmed it will be delaying the release of Prison Architect 2 following a number of issues with the launch of Cities: Skylines 2.

Prison Architect 2 had been due for release on May 7, but will now launch September 3.

Announcing the delay in a blog, Paradox explained that while developers Double Eleven had all the builds ready to release, it had run into several faults with stability during testing. “In light of the memory usage issue, and minimum spec configuration failures, we therefore made the decision to postpone the game.”

Extra development time will allow the team to make sure the game is more stable and share more of the development with players through streams and additional developer diaries. The team also wants to “put more time into further developing some of the existing features that we know can be improved.”

“Considering the legacy of Prison Architect, and you – our passionate community, we want to ship the best possible sequel to such a beloved game, without cutting corners to do so,” explained the blog. “We know this is a long wait but we’ll be with you all the way to release and we know this will give you a better game experience in the end.”

The delay to Prison Architect 2 follows on from Paradox’s turbulent launch of Cities: Skylines 2. The sequel was launched at the end of last year, and was plagued by a number of bugs. A paid DLC was then released last month, with many fans annoyed that Paradox and developer Colossal Order were seemingly prioritising paid extras over fixing the base game.

Following the backlash, the team apologised for the “rushed” expansion and refunded players, before delaying the console release of Cities: Skylines 2 and promising to do better by the playerbase.

In other news, a number of artists who feature on the soundtrack to Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout have seen their streaming numbers increase dramatically.
