PREVIEW: Training camp continues in FENCE: REDEMPTION #1

Next month BOOM! Studios will release Fence: Redemption #1. The debut issue of the next installment of the hit swordplay series from BOOM’s BOOM!Box imprint comes from the creative team of writer C.S. Pacat, artist Johanna the Mad, colorist Joana LaFuente, and letterer Jim Campbell. Today The Beat is pleased to offer an early look at preview pages from the issue.

Here’s how BOOM! describes Fence: Redemption #1:

Return to the thrilling world of high-stakes, competitive fencing with the next exciting chapter of FENCE, featuring the beloved cast of the original hit series!

Are Seiji and Jesse really through? The rumors around Halverton have spread like wildfire, but it’s not long before a mysterious new fencer arrives–one who may finally pose a threat to the #1 spot in the prestigious fencing training camp.

Along with main and variant covers by Johanna the Mad, Fence: Redemption #1 will also sport variant covers by artists including Magdalena PagowskaKeyla Valerio, and Frany.

Fence launched from BOOM! Studios in 2017 as a four-issue miniseries, though it was quickly upgraded to an ongoing the following year. After twelve issues and three collected editions the series changed formats from single issues to original graphic novels. The first such OGN, Fence: Rivals, was released in 2020, and another, subtitled Rise, came out last year. Redemption marks the series’ return to the single-issue format, though in the announcement for the series no indication was made of why the switch was being made.

Check out the five-page preview for Fence: Redemption #1 (of 4), as well as all the variant covers for the issue, below, and look for it to arrive in stores and digitally on Wednesday, June 7th.
