There’s only one form of Crypto we’re happy to see in the world of video games, and that’s Crytosporidium, the star of the Destroy All Humans series.
Though while the star of Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed looks and sounds the same as our old pal, Cryptosporidium-137, it’s revealed that he’s actually now dead. In his place is Cryptosporidium-138, a clone. Created with purer Furon DNA, his standout feature is that he has genitalia, not that it makes any difference gameplay-wise. But not everything is going Crypto’s way. The KGB has discovered that’s he’s secretly the president of the United States, and have launched an attack on his mothership. And so begins another chaotic adventure.
We’ve had access to a preview build of Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed, and going hands-on with the first two open world areas available, we’ve had a lot of fun. Anyone that has played the original game will feel right at home here – the gameplay hasn’t changed much at all. But there are improvements on pretty much every front, leading to a bigger, better, and ultimately more enjoyable experience.

Going up against the KGB, it’s nice that Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed wastes no time in providing you with your jetpack and skate ability, allowing you to get around the open world environments with ease. It’s also not afraid to introduce new elements early, such as the groovy Free Love ability that allows you to make a group of NPCs have an impromptu party, which is great for lowering your wanted level.
Unfortunately, one of the new weapons introduced, the Dislocator, isn’t so impressive. It fires a disc that’s meant to move objects or enemies and make them ricochet around, but the end result is disappointing. Sometimes it doesn’t seem to do much at all. Thankfully there are more new weapons, though, and the ones that return are hilarious as ever, such as the Anal Probe.
The best thing about Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed is that it feels more open. And with that, there are numerous changes to make it easier to explore its locations, which include Bay City (San Francisco) and Albion (London). You can unlock new landing sites for your flying saucer, for example, by locating strange rocks and completing their challenges. Your saucer can even be summoned to these sites if it’s not already parked there.

Crypto’s psychic abilities have also been enhanced. He can now fully bodysnatch NPCs rather than simply imitate them, allowing him to remain disguised for longer. And objects picked up via telekinesis can be used to slam and pound enemies. There are a range of upgrades to acquire for his latent abilities, too, on top of the usual weapon upgrades.
Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed, then, looks set to be bigger and better than its predecessor in every way. Even its missions are generally meatier and more exciting. Add in other extras like the ability to play in local co-op, and a new photo mode, and you have what is sure to be the best Destroy All Humans game yet.
For those that have played and loved the original, this will feel familiar but fresh. But it’s those that have never played Destroy All Humans! 2 before that will get the most out of it. There are hints here that this is an old game with a very nice new lick of paint, but for the most part it feels surprisingly modern. In any case, it’s nice to once again be in control of Crypto and causing chaos. After all, what other game lets you destroy parliament with a death ray?
The good news for those keen to jump into more alien based madness is that there’s isn’t too long to wait for Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed. It will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 30th August. Even better, anyone that pre-orders the game will get free access to Clone Carnage, a standalone multiplayer DLC for up to four players.
Curiously, while Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed has only been announced for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, Clone Carnage will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One. It’s perhaps because it’s based on the challenges found in 2020’s Destroy All Humans! Also, while it’s free to those who pre-order Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed, it is also available to buy separately for £9.99/$12.99.
