There are currently 26 Ice-Type Pokémon in the Paldea Pokedex that players can explore, 6 of them are entirely new Pokémon to discover. Some of these Pokémon actually have some of the best stats of all Pokemon and would be great additions to your party!
Ice-type Pokémon are unfortunately fairly susceptible to a lot of damage and have no immunities. There are 4 types of attacks that will deal more damage to them, they are Rock, Steel, Fighting, and Fire. Ice Pokémon only have increased resistance to other Ice-Type moves, another disadvantage over other types that have multiple resistances.
10/10 Beartic
To start our list we have Beartic, humble Beartic has really strong Attack stats that benefit the most from evolving Cubchoo at Level 37. Found all throughout the Glaseado Mountain region this pure Ice-Type Pokémon performs admirably in its Snow weather condition.
Due to its high attack stat, players would do really well with the Egg move Focus Punch. Otherwise, sticking to the classic Blizzard is a good play too.
9/10 Weavile
Weavile, evolved from Sneasel using a Razor Claw at Night-time, also has a good base Attack stat. Not only this but it has really great speed for getting attacks in first and more often! It’ll be a pretty rare occurrence to come across one in the wild so you’ll definitely want to catch a Sneasel in the Northeastern regions of Glaseado Mountain and North Province (Area One).
Due to its second type, Dark, Weavile suffers from increased vulnerability from Fighting moves. However, this also gives it immunity from Psychic moves.
8/10 Abomasnow
Abomasnow is a great all-rounder to have in any party that needs an Ice-Type Pokémon. Look out though, having the second type, Grass, leaves it susceptible to many more moves, particularly Fire Type.
Players will want to evolve their Snover right away at level 40 to get a big boost in stats. If Abomasnow has the ability Snow Warning, it will be useful in plays that take advantage of the Snow weather condition effects. Many other Ice-Type Pokémon have big bonuses, such as Glaceon or Baxcalibur, when used in battle with Snow.
7/10 Cryogonal
Cryogonal, originally discovered in Gen 5, is a pure Ice-Type Pokémon that doesn’t have any evolutions. Found, like many Ice Pokémon, in the Glaseado Mountain Region it boasts the highest Special Defense of all Ice-Type Pokémon. This will come in handy against some of the most devastating special moves you might see in Team Star battles.
Cryogonal has an advantage over many ice Pokémon as it will have the hidden ability Levitate. This makes it a psuedo-flying type Pokémon giving it immunity from Ground-Type moves and other arena moves that affect the ground condition, such as Spikes.
6/10 Cetitan
Cetitan is a new pure Ice-type Pokémon that evolves from Cedoddle with the use of an Ice Stone. You can find both of these wandering around in the Glaseado Mountain Region, with Cetitan found more often in the northernmost regions.
The great thing about Cetitan is the enormous base HP stat combined with the ability Thick Fat to reduce damage taken from Fire and Ice Moves to make great defensive plays. There’s also a possibility to have the hidden ability Sheer Force which increases the power of moves that have secondary effects by 30%.
5/10 Glaceon
Glaceon is another pure Ice-Type Pokémon on this list, evolved from Eevee with an Ice Stone but can also be found as a Tera-Type Pokémon in the far northeastern Glaseado Mountain.
Glaceon has generally average base stats overall, but it does have a really high Special Attack, the highest among all the Ice-Type Pokémon. This will do well with moves like Blizzard and Ice Beam, especially if it’s from the Ice Tera Type Pokémon too. Glaceon will thrive when battling in snow due to its health regeneration from Ice Body and if it has the Snow Cloak ability with have 20% increased evasion.
4/10 Cloyster
A Gen 1 Pokémon returns yet again as a favorite in the series. Cloyster has always been known as a high-defense Pokémon with its hardened shell, though Avalugg takes the top spot as the Pokémon with the highest defense.
Cloyster has the chance to have Shell Armor as an ability that allows it not to be critically hit or Skill Link that causes multi-hit abilities to always allow maximum hits with skills like Icicle Spear or Whirlpool. Cloyster can be found along the coast in the northwestern regions of Paldea, or it can also be evolved from Shellder with a Water Stone.
3/10 Iron Bundle
If you’ve got Pokémon Violet you’re in luck as Iron Bundle is exclusive to this version of the game. Iron Bundle is a new stronger variant of the Generation 2 Delibirb which both don’t have any evolutions. With Water as a second type, compared to pure Ice-Type Pokémon Iron Bundle replacing Steel and Fire as a weakness with Grass and Electric, it also receives a boost in defense against water and further improves damage from Ice moves.
Iron Bundle will make a great addition to a party with a good set base stats overall, particularly with its incredibly high Speed stat and Special Attack, but it also has great Defense too.
2/10 Chien-Pao
Chien-Pao is a New Legendary Pokémon with Dark as its second type. It’s a formidable opponent, standing gracefully with its giant sword fangs. When trying to battle and capture it you’ll no doubt see that it will be a very strong member of your team. Its special ability is the Sword of Ruin, this will lower the defense of all Pokémon nearby, a very powerful tool indeed!
Chien-Pao has no evolutions and can be caught after locating the shrine in West Province. Chien-Pao boasts some of the highest total base stats among all Pokémon in Paldea. In particular, it is known for high attack and fast speed.
1/10 Baxcalibur
Baxcalibur is an absolute powerhouse of a Pokémon. This new Ice Dragon type evolves from Arctibax at level 54 and Frigbax at level 35. You can find the lower unevolved forms of Baxcalibur in the Glaseado Mountain Region. With its second type, Dragon, it gains more resistance to Grass and Electric-type moves.
Baxcalibur has one of the highest base Attack Stats in the game, and that’s largely one of the most important stats to have. It also has great HP, Speed, and an above-average defense stat too. Whereas other Pokémon on this list might be more vulnerable to fire, Baxcalibur takes advantage of Fire-type moves as it can’t be affected by being burned, and has its already high attack stat increased when hit by fire moves.
