PlayStation 5 Beta Update 7.00 Adds Highly Anticipated Discord Voice Chat

Beta participants can now test out the PlayStation 5’s new Discord integration.

Sony has now begun rolling out the next big system software update for PlayStation 5. Although still in its beta phase, the update includes the much anticipated Discord voice chat feature and variable refresh rate support for 1440p output.

The beta version will only be available for a limited number of users in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, and Japan. If you have already signed up for the beta, make sure to check your emails as Sony is sending out invitations along with the instructions to download the beta build.

While the final release date for this new patch is yet to be announced, unofficial reports suggest it should be arriving at the beginning of March. Those who are invited to the beta will have full access to the new Discord voice chat integration, but it will require you to sync your PlayStation and Discord accounts first, in order to grant permissions to the app for monitoring your information and sharing them with your friends.

Other than that, there are a number of new social features and improvements in the new version of PlayStation 5 system software that will make it easier for you to know what your friends are playing and request screen sharing.
