Platinum Games Reportedly Working With Xbox To Revive Scalebound

Microsoft may soon be walking back its comments about the previously cancelled title.

Xbox Era’s Shpeshal_Nick recently hosted a new podcast, claiming that he has been told Platinum Games and Microsoft are working together to revive Scalebound, but it is still in the very early stages. The source clarifies that he doesn’t know about the scale of the revival yet, but it isn’t impossible at the moment.

Platinum Games recently delivered Bayonetta 3 for Nintendo Switch, but the studio had previously expressed its interest in working with Microsoft once again to revive the Scalebound project. That being said, the plan to bring it back was initially denied by Microsoft, at least publicly. But now, if the rumor turns out to be true, we might see the anticipated Xbox One project come back to the production cycle again.

Scalebound was originally announced as an Xbox One console exclusive back in 2014. The game received more details along with a gameplay trailer confirming a co-op multiplayer mode in 2015. At the time, the project was supposed to release in 2016, but then it was delayed to the following year. Microsoft then revealed in January 2017 that Scalebound was canceled. Since then, we have heard nothing about the project’s revival officially from Microsoft. Prior to Scalebound, Microsoft also canceled Fable Legends in 2016, which was another planned exclusive title never to see the light of the day. That being said, a new Fable is already in the works at Playground Games.

Regarding how much Xbox has been expanded since then, it could be a proper time for Microsoft to revive Scalebound for its new consoles, provided that Platinum Games and Hideki Kamiya are interested in going back to working with the company once again.

Microsoft is supposed to hold a new showcase later this month, sharing new details on Redfall, The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, and Minecraft Legends. With Xbox Era claiming that the Scalebound revival is still in the early stages, it is unlikely that we will hear anything official about it at the upcoming Developer Direct.
