Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby cut from This Morning titles days after his axe | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

After Phillip Schofield confirmed he was “stepping down” from his role, Holly Willoughby told her Instagram followers she was taking an extended break from This Morning and would return on June 5.

On Monday, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary stepped into Holly and Phillip’s shoes, and they opened the show with a moving tribute.

However, as the titles of the show rolled, fans noticed Phillip and Holly had both been cut from the credits.

Alison began: “We can’t start the show without paying tribute to the man who spent the last two decades sitting on the This Morning sofa, Phillip Schofield.”

“As a show – everyone on screen and off screen at ITV and This Morning wants to say a huge thank you to Phil for everything he has done to make this show a success over the past 20 years,” Dermot continued.

Alison went on: “Quite simply, we all know he’s one of the best live television broadcasters this country has ever had. And we and all the team wish him all the best for the future.”

Dermot added: “Holly’s taking a break for half term – she’ll be back on the show on June 5.”

Alison concluded: “We’re both going to be here throughout the morning. Here’s what we’ve got coming up on the show today.”

However, fans took to Twitter in droves to comment on Holly and Phil being removed from the opening credits, while others slammed Alison and Dermot’s tribute.

@djrustynail tweeted: “They didn’t waste time changing the opening credits. #thismorning #philwho.”

@criticaltv1 went on: “Opening credits already changed and a quick mention of his name then swiftly moved on lol what a tribute lol #thismorning.”

“#thismorning They’ve removed them from the opening credits too,” @Crazier shared.

@realjaneaird complained: “Well that was a bit of pathetic PR… #ThisMorning.”

@KeloidKrown said: “Phillip Schofield got a 30-second “thanks for everything, mate” after a 21-year stint on #ThisMorning…” (sic)

Norfolk_Kez fumed: “OMG @thismorning who put that car crash together?! He’s not dead, that was way off the mark! Absolutely terrible! #ThisMorning.” (sic)
