Makoto Niijima is the holder of the Priestess Arcana, as well as both a party member and Confidant in Persona 5 Royal. She is a third-year student council president at Shujin Academy who is first introduced on 05/06. You can begin her Confidant on 06/25 after clearing Kaneshiro’s Palace. She is available on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday during the daytime and can be found by either the student council room or the front gates of Shujin Academy.
As with most Confidants, there isn’t a limit on when you can rank Makoto up. As long as you achieve Rank 10 before reaching an ending you can complete the Priestess Confidant. Also, at Rank 9 you have the option to romance Makoto, which changes the dialogue options for the following rank.
Persona 5 Royal: Makoto Niijima Confidant skills
Below are the skills and benefits acquired from ranking up the Priestess Confidant. The standout skills are Shadows Factorization, Protect, and both awakenings. Much like all party members it is worth ranking Makoto up as doing so provides benefits in battle and access to her evolved Personas, Anat and Agnes.
- Rank 1 – Shadow Calculus: Allows you to see skills and potential item drops on the analysis screen.
- Rank 3 – Black belt Talk: If negotiation with a martial arts-using Shadow fails, you can try again.
- Rank 4 – Follow Up: Chance to perform a follow-up attack if Joker’s attack does not down the enemy.
- Rank 6 – Harisen Recovery: Chance to cure status ailments inflicted upon party members.
- Rank 7 – Shadow Factorization: Allows you to see Null, Repel, and Drain when highlighting a target in battle.
- Rank 8 – Endure: Chance to withstand an otherwise fatal attack with 1 HP remaining.
- Rank 9 – Protect: Chance to shield Joker from an otherwise fatal attack.
- Rank 10 – Second Awakening: Evolves Makoto’s Johanna Persona into Anat.
- Rank 10 – Third Awakening*: Evolves Makoto’s Anat Persona into Agnes.
*Makoto’s Third Awakening is only triggered in the third semester.
