One of the main stories you experience in Persona 3 Portable is Junpei and Chidori meeting and beginning to fall for one another. Despite being on opposite sides and believing in different things, they are the only members of SEES and Strega that are able to interact beyond simply trying to kill each other.

In the base game and the enhanced edition of FES, Chidori eventually perishes when saving Junpei and pushing him to live for more and to be the hero he wants to become. While her death greatly affects Junpei and furthers his character development, through particular dialogue options you can essentially bring her back from the dead and make your best friend, Junpei very happy.

What Days And What To Say

During the month of November, Chidori will be in the hospital and is under constant surveillance and interrogation by the other members of SEES. Feeling responsible for Chidori and her current situation, Junpei will have feelings about wanting to make it up to her and try to cheer her up. The player is responsible for finding Junpei in the dorms on the following days and being sure to encourage him to continue his efforts with Chidori.

11/6: Following a cutscene where Cidori asks Junpei never to see her again, head to the second floor of the dorms at night and find Junpei at the tables. Talk to him and say he “should go visit no matter what.”

11/14: Finding Junpei on the ground floor at night, he is contemplating bringing something to Chidori; encourage him to do so by saying to “bring something along.”

11/22: During the day, encourage Junpei by saying, “there must be something you can do; try it.”

All three of these conversations must be had; afterward, Chidori’s death scene will play out the same. You won’t see the effects of these conversations until 1/21 when you and Junpei are informed that Chidori’s body started transmogrifying again. It is then revealed that the flowers Junpei gave her housed some of the restorative power from her persona and revived her without the ability to use her persona or memories of anything related to the Dark Hour, including Junpei.

Is Chidori Really Alive

Mitsuru Talking About Chidori's Revival

For the most part, Persona games are one-offs with little carry-over into other series games. While a sudden change like this between editions may not cause any noticeable difference, hints are pointing in both directions for if Chidori is really dead or not. In Persona 3 FES the Answer, Junpei states that he wishes he could go back in time to see Chidori again but knows it wouldn’t be right, hinting that she is dead in the epilogue to the game. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is also a canon sequel to Persona 3, and in it, Junpei mentions Chidori not needing to worry about him, hinting that she’s still alive. Both stories are canon, but without a proper answer, it’s up to the player’s interpretation.
