Path of Exile 2, the free ARPG, was showcased during the latest State of Play, coinciding with the announcement of its early access launch for late 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. We present its latest trailer and some of the new features announced by Grinding Gear Games.
Path of Exile 2 Will Arrive at The End of 2024
The developer has confirmed the inclusion of local co-op mode. “Local co-op is something we’ve wanted to implement for a long time. Action RPGs are much more fun when you play with friends, and it’s even better when you can do it in the same room,” explained Jonathan Rogers, the game director.
Path of Exile 2 will also include cross-play and cross-progression, so the console versions will be on par with the PC version, with the same support.
Controller-Friendly Design
Great importance has been placed on controller support. “Dual Stick, the new mapping system that allows you to fully customize your controls thanks to 24 assignment slots and the redesign of inventory management, makes Path of Exile 2 much easier to learn and play,” says the studio. “Moreover, all the skills have been thoroughly reviewed by a new team specialized in consoles, ensuring that each one works perfectly with a controller.”
There are other features designed to make it easier for newcomers to the series or the genre to enter this world. To this end, many mechanics have been simplified, tutorial videos on skills have been added to explain how they work and how to use them in combat, a new help system allows players to know exactly how the stats of each item affect them at the press of a button, and a new system has been introduced to let players check what effects each choice has on their characters, thus making the game easier to understand.
Key Features of Path of Exile 2
- A Next-Generation Action RPG: Path of Exile 2 is a next-generation action RPG created by Grinding Gear Games. Journey through the deadly continent of Wraeclast and experience multiple cultures while facing evil in all its forms.
- Familiar and New Classes: Twelve character classes. Path of Exile 2 features twelve character classes, two for each combination of Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. You can combine skills from various classes to create your ideal character. Each of the twelve character classes has its own three Ascendancy specializations, resulting in a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes to choose from.
- Unique Boss Encounters: In this new installment, each campaign area contains a boss encounter. There are over a hundred bosses to fight as you progress through the acts, all with unique mechanics to learn.
- New Skill Gem System: Path of Exile 2 includes 240 skill gems that grant devastating active abilities and 200 support gems that modify their behavior.
- Extensive Equipment System: It features hundreds of base equipment types to discover as you explore the land of Wraeclast. These have a wide range of magical modifiers but can also be found in unique variants imbued with ancestral power.
- Endgame: At the end of the six-chapter campaign in Path of Exile 2, you will access the endgame. Each of the over 100 endgame maps has its own boss fight and modifiers, allowing for revamped versions of many previous Path of Exile leagues.
