Julia Garner will star opposite Josh Brolin in Weapons, the next movie from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Filming is due to begin in mid-May.
Weapons has been described as an “interrelated, multistory horror epic” that is similar in tone to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia. That’s all we know so far.
Garner starred on Ozark and will play Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. That’s not the only connection to the forthcoming Fantastic Four film in Weapons. Pedro Pascal, who will play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the film, was originally tapped to star in Weapons before he dropped out due to scheduling issues.
2022’s Barbarian was a big success for Cregger, who up until that point was better known for the off-beat sketch comedy series Whitest Kids U’ Know. Cregger scored an eight-figure deal for Weapons.
In related news, the success of the Barbarian movie led to the announcement of a Barbarian video game. Those who have seen the movie might be wondering how the film might be adapted into a game, and we don’t know the answer yet.
Cregger previously co-wrote and co-directed 2009’s low-budget Miss March movie with another WKUK member, Trevor Moore, who passed away in 2021.
