Overwatch 2 updates will buff supports, with Mercy and Moira up next

Developer Blizzard provided some insight into its thoughts on the current state of Overwatch 2. A recent developer blog identifies specific heroes that need some work. It also addresses some of the problems with the current weakest role in the game, support. Blizzard hears players loud and clear and intends to buff supports as the Overwatch 2 beta continues.

Following the small adjustments to Ana and Baptiste’s ammunition and the hilarious addition of Zenyatta’s flying kick, Mercy and Moira are up next. Regarding Mercy, Blizzard wants to address her mobility. More specifically, her “super jump,” which is an unintended technique that players can utilize to gain height quickly when using Guardian Angel. The developer wants to change this technique into an ability in order to improve accessibility and to “accentuate it.”

As for Moira, she is performing relatively well in Overwatch 2, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t without her problems. Being able to deliver reliable stats is nice, but does it mean all that much if a hero isn’t fun to play? Many players consider Moira to be the least fun of the supports to play in Overwatch 2. Blizzard wants to change this by tweaking her damage and healing output while also giving her some impactful utility.

No more shield breakers

In the original Overwatch, it’s common for several shields to be used on the battlefield at once. Overwatch 2 nerfed shields and removed the second tank, making this far less of an issue. However, an unintended consequence of this change is that heroes that specialize in breaking shields, like Junkrat and Symmetra, have suffered.

Blizzard is exploring the potential for these two DPS characters to be adjusted. For Junkrat, it wants to introduce a means to better reward players who land direct hits with his Frag Launcher. As for Symmetra, the developer has recognized that her Photon Projector is too difficult to get kills with. Neither of these heroes are Blizzard’s primary focus right now, but they are being closely monitored.
