Overwatch 2 servers are having issues, with extensive queues, connection issues, and DDoS reports

In an unsurprising turn of events, Overwatch 2‘s launch hasn’t exactly gone very smoothly. Today on October 4, Overwatch 2′s PvP was finally released in an official manner to the public, but, predictably, there are some kinks to work out. The new move to a free-to-play format likely has tons of curious players wanting to try out the game. As such, those hoping to join the fight are facing login errors, extensive queues, and connection losses. There have also been unfortunate reports of DDoS attacks.

Overwatch 2 servers went live today at 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST, but some streamers were facing issues earlier in the day. Twitch streamer Seagull, for instance, faced a queue of over 20K players in his attempts to log in. He also got disconnected more than once, forcing him back into queue. While there are still players able to play the game, you might not be one of the lucky few. PC Gamer stated that it has even seen the queue climb to over 40K players. Fortunately, the interest in the game seems to be there.

Overwatch 2 servers are still online for now

What doesn’t help matters further is a report from Blizzard President Mike Ybarra, stating that Overwatch 2 servers are experiencing a “massive DDOs attack,” which is a big contributor to many of the connection issues in the game. The official Twitter account for Blizzard’s customer support is regularly posting updates about the status of the game, so you can check the page to stay in the know of current issues. There’s also an extensive list of known issues over at the Blizzard forums.

Meanwhile, as of this writing, all the issues with the servers don’t seem to be fixed. Overwatch 2 is currently not down, but it may take some time for the developers to work out the connection issues the game faces. If you haven’t already in the meantime, you can prepare for Overwatch 2 by downloading it for free today. Existing players can update the original Overwatch, which is no longer available to play.
