Orion attacks in King & Fornés’s DANGER STREET #5

Next month DC Comics will release Danger Street #5. The next installment of the twelve-issue Black Label series comes from writer Tom King, artist Jorge Fornés, colorist Dave Stewart, and letterer Clayton Cowles. Ahead of its preorder cutoff date, The Beat is pleased to present an early, unlettered preview of the issue, which finds the series’ disparate leads coming together in explosive fashion.

Here’s how DC describes Danger Street #5:

What does a small-town murder have to do with the mysteries of the Multiverse? Lady Cop is on the case, but time is running out! Gods from beyond the stars are battling over the boy who could save all their lives, the Manhunter is stalking his prey, and, meanwhile, the Dingbats are tired of waiting for answers…and they’re about to take revenge into their own hands!

Along with a main cover by Fornés, the fifth issue of the series also sports a variant cover by frequent King collaborator Mitch Gerads. In an interview with The Beat back before Danger Street debuted, writer Tom King praised Jorge Fornés’s work both on the series and in general, comparing him to Gerads in his approach to larger-than-life characters. “What he brings is my favorite thing in comics,” King said, “Which my buddy Mitch Gerads is the master of, where, these are very absurd people and very absurd concepts and he renders them in a way that makes them very real. His style now reminds me of my buddy Lee Weeks. ‘Quietly epic’ is the way I would put it. He knows how to drag these superheroes into the real world, but still be able to pull the camera out for specific spectacular action.”

Check out the unlettered five-page preview of Danger Street #5, along with Gerads’s Manhunter-focused variant cover, below. The issue is due out in stores and digitally on Tuesday, April 11th, and has a final order cutoff date of this Sunday, March 19th.
