Ori Dev’s No Rest For The Wicked Hits Steam Early Access April 18

No Rest For The Wicked–the action-RPG from Ori developer Moon Studios–will be available to play very soon. The studio has revealed it’s coming to Steam Early Access on April 18, giving players the chance to check out its animation- and timing-based combat system, “soft class” system, and customizable hub city.

In a Wicked Inside presentation detailing the combat, early access plans, and endgame content, Moon Studios explained just how its approach to the action-RPG genre differs from other games. Combat draws inspiration from multiple sources, including fighting games, and it seems that a certain very popular series by From Software was an influence, as well. Spacing and timing are important to land hits, and the game’s weapons all have bespoke animations to differentiate them from each other.

Rather than make you pick a set character class, No Rest For The Wicked uses a “soft class” system that encourages you to experiment and play the game the way you want. This extends to the weapons you pick; the “common” weapons usually destined for the junk drawer in other games are the most customizable tier in No Rest For The Wicked, so you may not even want to equip something fancier.

When you’re not slaughtering monsters, you’ll head to the city of Sacrament, a customizable hub in which you can alter the environments using resources you’ve gathered and even purchase real estate. A bonfire this is not–you can own your own house in No Rest For The Wicked, even if soaring interest rates and parasitic private equity have stopped you from doing so in real life.

No Rest For The Wicked will first be available on PC via Steam Early Access on April 18. The game’s first update during this period will add multiplayer, and console support will arrive with the still-undated 1.0 release.
