The Leviathan Expedition is now available in No Man’s Sky, and it includes some whacky new additions like space whales and a time-loop mechanic for players to enjoy. No Man’s Sky was initially criticized for its lack of content at launch. After many years of consistent and significant updates to the game, it’s safe to say that this hasn’t been an issue for a while.
In the official updatepost, Hello Games goes into great detail about the new additions to the game. Leviathan is No Man’s Sky‘s seventh Expedition, and it introduces roguelike gameplay. This expedition traps travelers in a time loop that resets and results in lost progress upon death. Every loop plays out differently thanks to the procedurally generated Memory Fragments that players recover. The community will also be able to help each other escape the time loop. Hello Games says, “Alongside their personal efforts to break the loop, Travellers can help Specialist Polo as they research the loop’s peculiar manifestations.” The developer then explains, “The more Travellers that participate in the research, the stronger the Memory Fragments become, manifesting in better upgrades, more inventory space, and stronger Multi-Tools and starships.”
The Leviathan Expedition for No Man’s Sky is available for approximately six weeks and include a story-driven adventure. It offers limited-edition rewards such as base decorations, a Temporal Starship Trail, and the Whalestalker Cloak. It also rewards the Leviathan, which you can recruit to your capital ship’s frigate fleet.
No Man’s Sky continues to provide more value
The Leviathan Expedition is the latest of many updates to No Man’s Sky. A few months ago, Hello Games released the Outlaws update, which allowed players to hunt pirates for bounties, among other Han Solo-inspired activities. The developer will continue to work on future updates to No Man’s Sky beyond Leviathan.
