No Better Actor To Portray The Flash Than Ezra Miller, Says Director Andy Muschietti

Ezra Miller’s future as the Flash in the DC Extended Universe has been a topic of ongoing discussion, fueled by abuse allegations and legal issues surrounding the actor. Despite the lingering concerns, director Andy Muschietti has expressed his support for Miller, stating that if a sequel to The Flash were to happen and he and his producing partner, Barbara Muschietti, were involved, Miller would continue in the lead role.

In an upcoming episode of The Discourse podcast, set to be released closer to the film’s June 16 premiere, Andy and Barbara Muschietti commended Miller’s portrayal of Barry Allen. Andy Muschietti stated (via The Playlist), “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did… it feels like a character that was made for them.”

Barbara Muschietti echoed these sentiments, praising Miller’s dedication to the role during the principal photography of The Flash. She described the actor as “brilliant, committed, and professional.”

Early reactions to The Flash have generally lauded Miller’s performance. However, for some fans, the actor’s alleged misconduct remains a troubling factor. While Miller has addressed the need for mental health support, no information has emerged regarding their potential involvement in a sequel.

Ordinarily, a superhero film’s success would almost guarantee a sequel, aiming to establish a lucrative franchise. However, The Flash presents unique challenges. The movie was developed under the previous leadership of DC Studios, and although the new co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran, have expressed support for the film, a sequel does not seem to be an immediate priority in their plans to revamp the superhero universe. Nevertheless, if The Flash achieves both commercial success and critical acclaim, it is conceivable that Gunn and Safran may reassess their approach and consider a sequel.
