Nintendo boss: Switch still has “strong performance over the next few years”

With the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie next month along with their theme park opening last month, Nintendo has been pushing their brand.

However, they still are one of the big three in the video game console space. So it’s no surprise that people keep asking them about a Nintendo Switch successor.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser was when the “next Switch” would launch, as well as features he would like to see it have.

“As we enter the seventh year for the Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong,” Bowser said to The Daily Mail. “As Mr. Furukawa (Nintendo Japan president Shuntaro Furukawa) said recently, we’re entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that demand is still there. So nothing to announce on any future console or device.”

He added, “What I can share is that one of the reasons that even going into year seven we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways”.

One of the key takeaways from his statements is the part where they believe the Nintendo Switch to continue to have strong performance over the next few years. This means they plan on continuing to support the consoles for multiple years to come.

This comes in contrast to reports that state a successor to the Nintendo Switch is being planned to release, as well as sales for the console hitting a plateau. The latter of which is something that even Nintendo themselves have remarked on in their own earnings report.

Of course, Bowser is limited in what he can say about any potential console follow-ups regardless of how deep one is in the works. Time will tell on how the Switch is supported in the future, either as the sole focus or that it’ll continue to get strong support even after a successor has been launched.
