New World Brimstone Sands update preview

New World is getting a brand-new area with its upcoming Brimstone Sands update. With the update, players will be able to explore a brand new desert area, challenge a new expedition in Akhet, and even experiment with a brand-new weapon — the Greatsword. Updates to the new player experience and tweaks to the balance of the game are included as well, so let’s dive right in.

Brimstone Sands

The new area, Brimstone Sands, will feature a new territory for players to fight over, new enemies, and new advancements in the main storyline. Players will discover and explore a region abandoned for thousands of years, except for one entity — a sorcerer named Imhotep. Players will work with Imhotep to solve the Brimstone Sands secrets and fend off the threat of what remains of the 19th Roman Legion, who has fallen to the corruption infesting the land.

The Romans are sieging the central structure in the zone, a mysterious pyramid. What their goals are, and why the pyramid is so important, are unknown at this time, and must be discovered by players. It all culminates in a plot born of the Huntress Adiana, and the Angry Earth — requiring players to dive deep into the heart of Ahket, the newest expedition. Brimstone Sands will be available to players in early September for public testing.

Greatsword

The Greatsword is a new two-handed weapon that relies on ‘stances’ to adapt to the battlefield. Each of the stances comes with specific risks and rewards built in, such as the Onslaught tree granting powerful attack bonuses and the Defiance tree bolstering a player’s defenses. The Greatsword scales equally with Strength and Dexterity, which will allow players to create some interesting builds and interactions with other items.

Updates

The new starting experience has been completely revamped. New stories and quests will appear, with streamlined questing, improved enemy AI, and much faster-paced experiences for newer players. The optimization of the starting experience is intended to ferry players through the starting storyline as efficiently as possible.

In addition, all zones got a facelift, with more enticing environments and additions to the landscape, such as turning a random cougar den into a genuine outpost, showcasing an evolution over time since the original launch.

New World’s latest development video can be found in the link. Brimstone Sands will be available to all players for public testing in early September, but a release date for official servers has not yet been announced. New World is available via Steam and Amazon’s storefront.
