Epic Games has been well known for its support of Fortnite, especially on the battle royale side of things. Since its launch back in 2017, The title has seen tons of new content, collaborations, in-game events, and so much more. Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 3 has come and gone thus bringing about a new one. We now have Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1.
We have new skins, battle pass items, weapons, and game mechanics to spice up the battle royale experience. As the season goes on, we can only expect to see so much more added to the game. For now, let’s see what changes have taken place in Chapter 4 Season 1.
10/10 Unreal 5.1 Engine
One of the biggest changes that have taken place within the hit battle royale title is that the game now runs using the Unreal 5.1 Engine with full Nanite and Lumen support. The landscape itself looks stunning as all the colors are vibrant and eye-catching. It makes the gameplay itself more immersive and exciting.
Compared to how the game used to look, you can see the difference in the environment. Running around the Chapter 4 island and discovering all the new POIs feels more rewarding than ever. Unreal Engine 5.1 is a game changer and changed Fortnite for the better.
9/10 Whole New Map
Speaking of new POIs, the map that you used to know has completely changed. From the ground, up Chapter 4 Season 1 takes place on a whole new map. The Unreal 5.1 Engine highlights the beauty of the map itself as it showcases how detailed everything is.
There are a total of nine new POIs that you can drop on the island. Those locations are The Citadel, Breakwater Bay, Slappy Shores, Frenzy Fields, Anvil Square, Shattered Slabs, Faulty Splits, Lonely Labs, and Brutal Bastion. Discover each of them as soon as you can. Maybe one of them will become your favorite place to drop on?
8/10 Outposts
Outposts are one of the new gameplay mechanics that you can take advantage of in order to get a combat advantage over opponents. Think of Outposts like a King Of The Hill game mode. In different POIs, you’ll find a flag in the middle of them. If you stand near them, they will slowly begin to rise.
If you get them all the way up, it’ll drop items and ping all the chests and enemies in the area. Even though it sounds easy, you have to keep an eye out for any opposition that may try to get the jump on you.
7/10 Sky Jellies
Wildlife has been present on the island for a while now. We’ve seen boars, wolves, chickens, and many other lifeforms make themselves nice and comfortable on the battlefield. This time a new lifeform has made its way into the fray. Sky Jellies have made their way into Chapter 4.
These adorable creatures can be found in fields around the island in groups. If you jump on them, they will restore a little of your health. Hitting them will charge them up causing a mini explosion that will bounce you back.
6/10 Dirt Bikes
In regard to the different methods to traverse the island, we now have the addition of Dirt Bikes that you can ride. While they are a new way to navigate your way through the terrain you can also use them to pull off insane stunts and tricks while in the air earning yourself points.
While they don’t do anything, it is nice to try and break your high score. What you can do though is shoot your weapon while riding the bikes which can create some pretty awesome eliminations. Dirt Bikes can spawn almost anywhere on the map so keep your eyes peeled if you want to ride one.
5/10 Slap Juice/Slap Berries
A new type of consumable has made it onto the island. We now have Slap Juice and Slap Berries. Slap Juice can be found in any type of chest or in barrels like Slurp Juice. Not only does Slap Juice heal you and give you shield, but it can also make you immune to fatigue allowing you to run longer than usual.
Slap Berries have the same exact effect, however, you can only obtain them by foraging in fields. If you ever need to run away from enemies or the storm, these are your best bet.
4/10 New Weapons
The loot pool in Fortnite is always changing to keep everyone on their toes and add variety to the game. In Chapter 4 while we see a few weapons make a return, we also see several new ones as well. Coming back we have the DMR, SCAR, Primal Bows, Mechanical Bow, and the RPG.
New weapons such as the Ex-Caliber Rifle, Thunder Shotgun, Maven Auto Shotgun, Red-Eye AR, and many others make their debut in Chapter 4. One of the most notable ones is the Shockwave Hammer which can pack a mean punch to your opponent.
3/10 New NPCs To Talk To
NPCs have always played an important role on the island. Not only are they interesting to talk to, but they also have different items and services that they sell for a price. The better the service, the more expensive it costs. New NPCs have been added in Chapter 4 bringing more life to the island.
With the new weapons that have been added, they become even more useful than before. If you ever need to make a pit stop at one of them, just make sure you have some gold on hand.
2/10 The Ageless
The Ageless is the new “boss” character added in Chapter 4 Season 1. You can find him wandering inside the Citadel waiting for someone to challenge him. He’s equipped with a mythical version of the Ex-Caliber, so he can certainly pack a punch if he manages to hit you.
If you defeat him, not only do you get that, but you can also get the other loot that falls from him. Again, he’s tough, so try to either wait for another team to take him down, or have your own when fighting him.
1/10 Augments
Augments are the biggest game changers when it comes to things that have been added to Chapter 4 Season 1. What they do is that they act as perks that can change up the way the game works. There are several that can be discovered, however, it’s all random, and you can’t choose which ones you want to take into battle before you start.
During a match, you have to select one of two augments, or you can re-roll for a different selection. The more you play, the more options that become available. Some of them can be pretty deadly so keep your eye out for the best ones.
