New Steam Deck update brings fixes to fan noise

0

Valve has updated their Steam Deck to bring SteamOS to version 3.2, which introduces news features and a new fan curve that priorities lower volume over cooling performance.

They claim this will “improve the experience in low usage scenarios”. Users are able to select the old fan curve profile if they desire better cooling over noise.

Another feature Valve added also allows more control over choosing between performance and battery life. Players will be able to change their display refresh rate during gameplay from the default 60hz to 40hz, or any number in between.

Steam Deck users will also be able to cap their frame rates all the way down to 10fps if they choose the 40hz option. These will be settings that are saved on a per-game basis, so a title that doesn’t need a high frame rate can save battery without having to sacrifice the time to change when playing a game where the responsiveness matters more.

Another major new update comes to the Steam client, rather than the new SteamOS update. Steam Deck now is able to use their remote play together feature, which is designed to allow a friend to join your game remotely as if they were right next to you. One would be able to host or join using the Steam Deck.
