Since the first look at Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the pictures and clips have depicted Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) as a tyrant who is an enemy to both apes and humans alike. However, the full extent of Proximus’ evil hadn’t come into focus until the newly released extended preview for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. In this footage, the new ape hero, Noa (Owen Teague), lives peacefully in his village until Proximus Caesar captures everyone and forces them into slavery. And only Noa is left to free his family and friends.
In this fight, Noa has two key allies: an orangutan named Raka (Peter Macon) and a human girl called Mae (Freya Allan). The preview also features the moment that Mae reveals to Noa and Raka that she can speak, which is a rarity for humans 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes. It’s also why Proximus Caesar wants Mae alive. He believes that she can lead him to hidden human technology and weapons that will let him solidify his control over the apes and the humans.
The preview also appears to show what may be the final showdown between Noa and Proximus Caesar for control of the kingdom. And in this battle, Noa may be outmatched, but he’s not alone. His family and his allies are with him in his time of need.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will open in theaters this Friday, May 10.
