The new Horimiya anime will cover new stories from the original manga that had not been told yet. It promises to bring more romantic and comedy sequences that fans are familiar with in the manga version. The cast and staff members were also announced during the event, with Masashi Ishihama directing the series and Takao Yoshioka penning the script. Haruko Iizuka is attached to the project as a character designer while Masaru Yokoyama produces the music.

Haruka Tomatsu and Kouki Uchiyama will reprise their roles as Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, with Reina Kondo and Daiki Yamashita joining the cast as Sakura Kono and Shu Lura, respectively. The returning cast members also include Seiichiro Yamashita, who is also known for his role as Geten in My Hero Academia and Tao Ukegawa in Insomniac After School.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Horimiya anime is based on the comedy-romantic manga written and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara. It was first published all the way back in 2007, and then Square Enix purchased the rights to manga to publish it in Monthly G Fantasy magazine in 2011. Yen Press publishes the manga in English for international readers.

”At school, Kyouko Hori is known for being smart, attractive, and popular. On the other hand, her classmate, the boring, gloomy Izumi Miyamura tends to get painted as a ‘loser fanboy’.”Yen Press describes the main story of the original manga. ”But when a liberally pierced and tattooed (not to mention downright gorgeous) Miyamura appears unexpectedly on the doorstep of secretly plain-Jane homebody Hori, these two similarly dissimilar teenagers discover that there are multiple sides to every story…and person!”
