Monkey D. Luffy’s birthday is May 5th, so Netflix decided to commemorate the day with the One Piece live-action actors explaining how to pronounce the character’s name. It begins with Inaki Godoy, who will play the character in the adaptation, explaining things. Then, other members of the cast all chime in to provide examples.
Here’s the full video showing how to pronounce Luffy’s name in One Piece. It begins with Godoy. Then, Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, appears. After that, Zoro actor Mackenyu showed up. Jacob Gibson, who will portray Usopp, showed up after that. Taz Skyler, Sanji’s actor, wraps it up.
It’s a big day for the Straw Hat crew – it’s Monkey D. Luffy’s birthday! And what better way to celebrate than by teaching everyone how to say our captain’s name like a pro? It’s ‘loo-fee,’ not ‘luh-fee’ or ‘luff-aye’ like you’re trying too hard. So let’s get this party started! pic.twitter.com/r6QPofUbaG

Most recently, series creator Eiichiro Oda commented on the state of the show. He noted, “[Netflix] promised that we won’t launch it until I’m satisfied.” This could mean it might not launch when expected.
The One Piece live-action show is expected to appear on Netflix in 2023. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media handles the manga.
