Need For Speed Unbound, the most recent entry in the critically acclaimed racing series, is 40% off for Xbox users just two weeks after its launch. Unbound was released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 2nd, receiving generally favorable reviews from critics, with a Metacritic score of 77 on PlayStation 5.

Despite the generally favorable reviews, Need For Speed Unbound has already been discounted by 40% on the Xbox store. According to the website, the deal, which brings the price down from $69.99 to $41.99, will only be available until January 2nd, 2023. Although online discounts aren’t exactly uncommon, especially during the holiday season, the fact that Unbound isn’t even a month old yet has raised some eyebrows amongst the gaming community.

Criterion, the developers behind Need For Speed Unbound, are still set on supporting the title post-launch though. Taking to the official Need For Speed Twitter account earlier this week, Criterion revealed that more updates will arrive near the end of January. The studio also confirmed that “an upcoming series of post-launch updates and experience packs, as well as free access to new modes, social features, and progression for Lakeshore Online,” will arrive in the future.

The first update for Need For Speed Unbound, which currently does not have a set release date, will reportedly focus on “expanding social play features” whilst future updates will bring new modes and features, cars, customization content and more, according to Criterion.

Unbound’s 40% discount comes as five veteran developers of Criterion leave the studio in order to “explore new options outside of EA.” Whether or not this will have an affect on the post-launch content for Need For Speed Unbound is yet to be made clear, but Criterion has already brought on board some new faces, including Codemasters veteran Geoff Smith. More details on the developers’ departure can be found at the link below.
