More engines do NOT make you go faster in LEGO Fortnite

Powered cars are a fantastic addition to LEGO Fortnite, but some aspects are a little unintuitive. If you’re like me, you’d expect more engines to equal more power. After far too much testing, I can tell you more engines do not make you go faster in LEGO Fortnite. Here’s everything you need to know.

Do more Power Centers make you go faster in LEGO Fortnite?

I thoroughly tested several configurations and can confidently say no; the number of Power Centers does not affect speed.

This is a bold claim, so I made a small road in Creative mode (pictured above) to test my findings. I built a small vehicle with enough room for several engines and timed how long it took to hit the wall at the back with each one. No modifications were made to the vehicle besides changing the engine.

I did this with Small, Medium, and Large Power Centers. After that, I tested with multiples of each and even a combination of all three. It took my car roughly 9 seconds to reach the back wall every time. Handling is a little harder to test, but I noticed no difference with any engine setup.

Do more Power Centers make you travel faster uphill in LEGO Fortnite?

It’s hard to build a driveable ramp in LEGO Fortnite, so I used a hill for this one. It’s not as controlled of an environment as I’d like, but I noticed no difference in performance between Power Centers

I also tried driving on different surfaces, but once again, I couldn’t find any noticeable differences.

So, what’s the point of different Power Centers in LEGO Fortnite?

Larger Power Centers hold more Power Cells, so you can travel further without replacing them. If you’re looking strictly at performance, this is the only distinction I can find between the three sizes.

Another big difference between the options is aesthetic. A tiny lawnmower engine looks ridiculous on a truck, and a massive engine looks awful on a small buggy. The Large Power Center is arguably the most convenient as it can hold 4 Power Cells, but I recommend using the one that looks best on your vehicle.

If you want extra speed, you can attach multiple thrusters to your vehicles and control them independently. I’ve had success with a simple build with a single thruster and find it the best way to quickly navigate the map in LEGO Fortnite.
