Following the worldwide reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision has released several new details about the first-person shooter. As reported by Gematsu, the story sees Task Force 141 embarking on a globe-trotting mission to “neutralize a terrorist conspiracy and attack on the US.”

In terms of new gameplay additions, it seems that stealth, night vision, vehicles and so on will need to be “strategically” considered. Advancements have also been made to the AI which affects NPCs, civilians, squad mate positioning and enemy patterns. Along with a new Gunsmith promising tons of options, RICOCHET Anti-Cheat is also coming back for Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 (which is out later this year and offers a “brand new play space”).

Infinity Ward is also using a unified Call of Duty engine for both titles that will span the franchise. It builds on Modern Warfare’s engine and features new toolchains, AI and locomotion models along with physically-based materials, photogrammetry, new PBR water, world volumetric lighting, a new GPU geometry pipeline, a hybrid tile-based streaming system, 4K HDR support and more.

Furthermore, the PC version is being developed by Beenox which is also providing additional development support along with Raven Software, High Moon Studios, Toys for Bob and “others.” Players can also expect a “massive calendar” of free post-launch content including new maps and modes, seasonal events, community celebrations and so on.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
