We won’t be waiting long on this year’s annual Call of Duty release, as there’s already a release date.

On Tuesday, Infinity Ward announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming out on Oct. 28, 2022. There’s still information on what platforms the game will be on, but PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms are a surefire bet.

Along with the release date information, publisher Activision had Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s key art painted on some gigantic shipping boat and nearby dock for some bizarre reason. Oh, the games industry sure loves needlessly extravagant marketing stuns. Watch the trailer showing that off for yourself below.

That teaser also hints that we may see a gameplay reveal for Modern Warefare 2 on June 9, 2022, only days before Summer Games Fest kicks off.

It looks like several characters from throughout the Call of Duty series will be in Modern Warfare 2 as well, according to the video’s description on YouTube.

“Task Force 141 makes its massive return with a global squad of iconic veterans, these Operators include Captain John Price, Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick, and introducing Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas.”

As someone that’s not played the series since the original Modern Warfare 2, I only recognize some of these names. Soap’s mustache in particular!

Over the past couple of months, Infinity Ward has been slowly rolling out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. First, there was a quiet confirmation that the game was in development, then we saw the official logo.
