Modern Warfare 2 Footstep Volume Was Drastically Increased In Season One Update

Modern Warfare 2’s footstep audio has reportedly been increased by a massive 75% in the season one update earlier this week, as discovered by YouTuber Xclusive Ace.

Full patch notes were shared by Infinity Ward when the season one update went live in both Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 on November 16th, but the developers failed to inform players that footstep audio had been adjusted in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer. After some extensive testing by the YouTuber, it was discovered that footstep audio had been drastically increased.

Taking to Twitter, Xclusive Ace said, “Bad news: I started doing my MWII post-patch footstep testing and when I analyze the audio peaks from the exact same test with the exact same audio settings, it appears footstep volume was increased by roughly 75%…”. The content creator then expressed that it may not be a 75% increase across the board, as only the peaks were measured. Despite this, it’s still clear that the audio had been increased by a significant amount.

As mentioned previously, Infinity Ward has not commented on the audio increase for footsteps in Modern Warfare 2, but it’s possible that the change was made to coincide with the volume level in Warzone 2.0, which launched on the same day as the season one update. There were plenty of other changes included in the patch though, including weapon adjustements to the Kastov 545, Kastov-74u, M4, M16, STB 556, and many more.

The season one update also brought back fan favorite map from 2019’s Modern Warfare, Shoothouse, as well as the introduction of a new hardcore playlist now known as Tier 1. Despite the detailed patch notes, there’s nothing included about footstep volume being increased, something that is vital in a competitive shooter.
