12 years after its release on Microsoft Windows PC, Minecraft is now making its debut on modern Chromebooks. The game’s developer, Mojang Studios, has announced that the hit title is in early access on Android’s storefront. Mojang has also confirmed that the game’s full version will arrive with the next major update for the game, Trails and Tales, which will bring archeology mechanics alongside a series of new mobs and blocks.

Minecraft’s Chromebook version also comes with all the features that are present in the game’s Xbox and Windows PC editions. This means that the full-cross platform functionality and Minecraft Marketplace are completely available in the new port, allowing players to purchase the community creations and join Minecraft Realm servers with their friends.

Microsoft and Mojang aim to bring the game to Chromebook without compromising its features. But keep in mind that while the game is in early access, it’s expected that players will encounter a few bugs along the way.

The developers have shared a FAQ page for the early access page for those who would like to report the bugs. Also, note that you will not be able to transfer your current world if you are planning to switch to the game’s Chromebook version. The FAQ page also states that your saves in the trial version will not transfer over to the full version.

You should be able to dive into early access as long as your device has at least 4 GB of RAM and runs on ChromeOS 11. You also need to create a Microsoft Account, unless you already have one. Here are the system requirements for a stable Minecraft experience on Chromebook.

  • RAM: 4 GB
  • CPU: 4 Cores
  • OS: ChromeOS 111
  • System Architecture: 64-bit (x86_64 – arm64-v8a

Those who own a Chromebook that meets the game’s minimum system requirements can get the game for $19.99 on Google Play Store. This bundle includes both the Android and Chromebook versions of Minecraft. That being said, if you already own the game on Android, you can simply upgrade it to the Chromebook version for $12.50.
