A new set of DLC for Minecraft has joined its marketplace today. Simultaneously revealed and released on Tuesday, the Mega Man X DLC set adds a suite of content based on the classic SNES game.

Mega Man X was the 1993 reboot of Capcom’s storied Mega Man franchise. The first game was released on the SNES and saw multiple sequels released regularly across several platforms, up through Mega Man X8 for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The series was also collected into two currently-available Mega Man X Legacy Collections and has expanded into the realm of mobile games with Mega Man X DiVE, released in 2020.

Now the latest iteration of the Mega Man X line has appeared within another game, as new DLC for Minecraft. Developed by Minecraft Marketplace regulars 57Digital, the Mega Man X DLC set works to add seemingly the entirety of the original Mega Man X SNES game in as custom Minecraft content. Skins based on X, the “Mega Man” of the game, his alternate-colored weapon-wielding forms, and comrade Zero, are all included. Further, the levels of the game have all been recreated within Minecraft’s architecture, along with boss battles against Mavericks like Chill Penguin and Storm Eagle, plus recurring baddie Vile, all the way up through to the final boss Sigma himself.

The new DLC set has been revealed on Minecraft’s official marketplace site, and also by Nintendo, advertising that the content is also available for the Switch version of the game. The trailer for the DLC, posted across all announcements, shows off the levels, played from a classic side-scrolling view, naturally, alongside multiplayer options and the classic music tracks which come as part of the bundle. All these announcements only just dropped at the same time the content was released on Tuesday, a pleasant surprise for fans here in the year of Mega Man X’s 30th anniversary.

The Mega Man X DLC is available through the Minecraft Marketplace for whatever device you’re playing on, priced at 1,340 Minecraft Coins. That works out to roughly eight dollars in real-world money. However, do note that as of this writing, players who have already gotten their hands on the DLC are reporting numerous bugs and issues with actually playing it. Seeing as we only just learned of its existence, it might be worth waiting a moment to see what the overall response is to this latest unexpected excursion for X.
