From team composition to the deck building options and even mod choice for each hero’s abilities — the options for players are many and multifaceted. Of all the classic characters like Spider-Man and Captain Marvel, there is one that is unique to Marvel’s Midnight Suns: Hunter. Being created specifically for Midnight Suns, Hunter has the most cards of any character in the game. They also have the most versatility in their kit with the options to become a heal-heavy support, a support damage dealer, or even a weird hybrid dark healing damage-soaker. No matter what players choose, here’s an easy guide for each of the two main options for Hunter support builds: Light and Dark

How The Light Hunter Build Works

Marvel's Midnight Suns hunter with a heal

Hunter receives some cards that are either Light or Dark. The Light cards lean towards a holy-healer type build where Hunter heals through enemy damage and gets bonuses to keep their team alive. This build will need Hunter to gain lots of Light points in The Abbey and has some sort of heal ability in almost every card. Heal, Holy Flame, and Holy Burst should be used indiscriminately when Hunter or an ally is around half health. Try not to wait until teammates are too low health before healing as things like upgraded Holy Flame give added bonuses for over-healing.

Holy Flame is especially useful as it either heals or does damage depending on the need. The deck also has some survivability added in order to keep Hunter from getting KO’ed in a single turn. With their low defense stats, cards like Fortify gives some needed Counter and Block while Guarding Strike gives Block each turn it’s in the player’s hand. Just so Hunter is not completely defenseless, bring along Patience or Summon Charlie to add some surprisingly good damage to the build.

How The Dark Hunter Build Works

The Dark Hunter build works much differently than the Light one. Foremost, going full-dark means there is little heals for Hunter directly. Having 2 copies of Dark Heal, which heals a teammate to full at a Health-loss to himself, lets Hunter keep the support class title. However, the Dark Hunter build is focused on major damage and sneakier battlefield tactics. One of Hunter’s abilities, Last Sight, gives them Concealed on KO which is great for single-hit enemies.

Last Sight is best saved for when Hunter is low on HP. With the right timing on high-damage cards like Patience, Annihilation, or Merciless, the hidden cloak of Last Sight can also be used to buy enough time to cause major damage. Another wonderful ability on the Dark side is Mindbender. This ability makes a chosen enemy, even bosses, attack their closest ally and is a great way to benefit from bosses and high-damage targets.

Best Hunter Team-Ups

Both the Light and the Dark Hunter builds are meant for use in a support role. In general, Hunter is always going to be the most at home when they’re in the support role and to that end being teamed with a tanky hero and an attack-focused hero will be ideal for almost every encounter. Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, and Captain Marvel serve as great tanks while damage mains like Blade, Spider-Man, and Ghost Rider make great additions too. Hunter can be built in a way that makes them a main damage character and in that rare case, they could be used alongside another support and tank.

However, as most of Hunter’s cards lean towards support tactics, staying support and using Light and Dark cards will generally work best. The playstyles can vary wildly however, and the adoption of two or more builds for Hunter is highly recommended overall. Also, Hunter’s Collar, their suits, and bonuses from Friendship levels can also all be customized to serve both Light and Dark builds.
