Microsoft Announces Plan to Share “Vision for the Future of Xbox” Next Week

Over the weekend rumours ran rampant that certain Xbox exclusives such as Starfield, Hi-fi Rush and even the upcoming Bethesda Indiana Jones game could be making their way to Playstation 5. It was only last month during the Xbox Developer Direct that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was confirmed to be in development for platforms Xbox and PC. However, according to a source close to The Verge, Microsoft may also bring the game to PS5.

According to senior editor Tom Warren at The Verge, sources inside Microsoft have shared that they have a new “multiplatform” approach when it comes to certain titles. This could mean that particular titles could make their way to Switch or PS5. Warren details that the Indiana Jones game could possibly have a short exclusivity period before heading to the rival console.

Due to these questions about the future of Xbox, Phil Spencer has announced to share plans next week about what’s in store for Xbox. A business update event will hopefully shed some light on what their plans are going forward.

Rumour: HiFi Rush for PS5/Switch

A recent datamine came up with texture files in Hi-Fi Rush which leads many to believe that the game would be joining Switch and PS5 at some point. An announcement could be coming in the coming weeks. Adding further fuel to the fire, during the FTC vs Microsoft case, there was a plan revealed for Indiana Joness and The Great Circle to be originally a multiplatform game, with Disney having contracts for multiple consoles. This was later amended after Microsoft successfully acquired Bethesda.

Will Starfield Jump Ship?

These aren’t the only titles, now Starfield is another potential title that could be making its way to PS5. Another outlet XboxERA has claimed that their sources believe the sci-fi RPG may head to Playstation after the Shattered Space expansion releases. The expansion is expected to launch later in 2024.

Game exclusives have always been around, but Microsoft’s more recent acquisitions under its belt have led many to question the future of many franchises. It was inevitable Starfield would be launched on Xbox Series X|S as a console exclusive and PC. But other future titles in question also include The Elder Scrolls 6. This could be a timed exclusive at launch, eventually coming to other platforms.

Exclusively Exclusive

PS5 also has its share of exclusive titles, some of which join PC such as Horizon Forbidden West which is expected to arrive on PC in March. But to come to another console platform would be a major step, especially with a first-party title. Sony has in the past talked about bringing more first party PS titles to PC. But other IPs haven’t been so forthcoming.

Then there’s the possibility of Microsoft eventually moving away from traditional consoles altogether. With platforms such as Game Pass, there are many ways to play games through PC, portable devices and cloud. Of course, none of this has been confirmed, and we’ll have to see what the official word from Xbox will be next week.
