Metro Kingdom All Purple Coins Location Guide Super Mario Odyssey
There are 100 tricky purple coins hidden in Super Mario Odyssey’s Metro Kingdom. Here’s an easy-to-follow guide to collecting them all.
Super Mario Odyssey is a truly enormous game with more collectibles than you can shake a stick (or a talking cap) at. It’s often regarded as one of the plumber’s best outings.
For enterprising players hoping to experience 100% of what the game has to offer, it’s important to keep an eye out for purple coins. Most Kingdoms contain either 50 or 100 of these coins, and you’re unlikely to encounter all of them on your first trip through a world. These coins usually appear in clusters of 2-4, and can be used to buy goodies at the Crazy Cap stores found throughout the game.
The Metro Kingdom, home to New Donk City, is one of the most expansive worlds in Super Mario Odyssey, with an entirely non-linear layout reminiscent of open-world games. The city streets are packed with hidden secrets and tricky platforming challenges, like any genre highlight. As such, it’s one of the trickiest worlds to achieve 100% completion on. The 100 purple coins are particularly problematic, with a number of them hidden in obscure, out-of-the-way corners. If you’re scratching your head trying to track them all down, read on!
Intro Area
- Three purple coins can be found in the isolated area where the Odyssey first lands. Platform over to a nearby outcropping, and you’ll find them in plain sight.
Southwest New Donk City
- After traveling across the power line and reaching the Main Street Entrance, you’ll see two coins tucked away behind a fence.
- Another three coins can be found up on a nearby rooftop, hidden behind a billboard.
- Three more coins can be spotted atop the billboard opposite the Crazy Cap shop.
- At the southwestern corner of the Metro Kingdom, you’ll find some girders hanging above the bottomless abyss. Platform along them for three purple coins.
- After collecting those, travel up the nearby power line. Drop down between two billboards for two more coins.
- Three coins can be found on the rooftop to the right of the Crazy Cap shop.
- Be sure to check the fire escapes! One of the fire escapes in the Southwest quadrant of the city is hiding two purple coins.
- Just north of the Rooftop Garden checkpoint flag, you’ll find three purple coins on a nearby building.
- At the southernmost point of the Rooftop Garden, you’ll find two coins atop a billboard.
- A tall building can be found at the easternmost point of the Rooftop Garden area. Capture the power cable to get to the roof and collect four more coins.
Northwest New Donk City
- Three purple coins can be found in the alley next to the Tostarena slot house.
- The tall building just north of the slot house has three purple coins on one of its ledges.
- Just west of that building, you’ll find a triangular building. After reaching its rooftop, hop down to the lower ledge to grab three more coins.
- Enter this building and you’ll find the T-Rex Chase area. Six purple coins can be found in this area, but you’ll have to be quick! If you miss any, you can always re-enter the building and try again.
- Over by the Outdoor Café, climb up to the rooftop area. Hop along the umbrellas, and you’ll find three more purple coins.
Northeast New Donk City
- Next to the Heliport checkpoint flag, you’ll find two vertical girders. Three purple coins can be found between them.
- To the left of the lower entrance to the New Donk City Hall Interior area, you’ll find three more purple coins.
- Directly in front of the New Donk City Hall checkpoint flag, wall jump up the narrow entranceway to find three more purple coins.
- To the east of the Rooftop checkpoint flag, you’ll find three purple coins below the ledge.
- On the north side of the City Hall building, three purple coins can be found between two girders.
Southeast New Donk City
- North of the park (where the M-A-R-I-O letters can be found in the post-game) is a tall building. Climb up to the roof (courtesy of the power cables) to find two purple coins.
- Climb further up this building and you’ll find a girder hanging off of the side, with two coins precariously positioned above the bottomless pit. Cappy can make quick work of them.
- Three more purple coins can be found wedged between this building and the building to the west. Drop down and you’ll be able to grab them.
- On the nearby triangular building, three purple coins can be found just below the northwest side of the roof.
- Back down on the street level, you’ll find a large door on one of the buildings. Enter it, and you’ll find a linear platforming challenge with Bullet Bills coming at you from all angles. Three purple coins can be found midway through this challenge.
New Donk City Hall Interior
- After riding several lifts, you’ll see one come up with three tiny Goombas atop it. Ride that lift back down and snag the purple coins at the bottom.
- Immediately following this section, you’ll find two purple coins on a crumbling platform. Be quick, or the platform will fall apart under your feet!
- Following this section, three purple coins can be seen in plain sight hanging above the abyss. Use Cappy to grab them from afar.
- A couple of long, climbable beams can be seen immediately afterwards. Rather than climbing up the second beam, climb down it to grab two more coins.
Underground Power Plant
- When you reach the area with two green platforms stacked on top of each other, turn the camera to find three coins hidden just out of sight.
- Climb onto those two green platforms to find four more purple coins.
Training Course
- Enter the house just north of the Outdoor Café checkpoint flag and you’ll find a small passage swarming with New Donk City denizens. After navigating through this room, you’ll find yourself on a rooftop far removed from the rest of town. Climb the lone tree on this roof to snag two more purple coins.
- Capture the rocket on this roof to enter the Training Course area. After some tricky platforming, you’ll find three purple coins on a rotating series of bars.
Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park
- Over at the Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park, you’ll find the final two purple coins by climbing the tree on the northeast corner.
Now, What To Do With All Those Purple Coins?
Once you’ve scoured the Metro Kingdom for coins (and no doubt have the infectous New Donk City theme stuck in your head, as Super Mario soundtracks tend to have that effect), don’t forget to pay the Crazy Cap shop a visit! Put those hard-earned coins to good use and buy Mario some shiny new duds (such as the Super Mario Maker-inspired Builder Outfit) and other trinkets to decorate your beloved ship with.
