Men of War 2 Realism Mode changes explained

0

Men of War 2 is a highly customizable WWII RTS that features a long list of settings that you can tweak to make the experience more enjoyable for you and your friends.

While you can go in and manually adjust difficulty settings and UI elements, there’s an optional set of rules called Realism Mode that drastically changes how the game is played. This is more than a hard mode — you’ll have to rethink your normal strategies and pay more attention to things like ammunition and weapon ranges. If you’re a hardcore tactician, then Men of War 2’s Realism Mode is for you.

How to Enable Realism Mode in Men of War 2

There are two ways to activate Realism Mode in Men of War 2. The game defaults to its Competitive (standard) ruleset in all game modes, but you can change it to Realism Mode on a global scale or on a per-lobby basis.

If you want to enable Realism Mode for all Men of War 2 game modes, then open the settings menu and click the Packages tab. There, you’ll find a checkbox that allows you to turn on Realism Mode. If you only want to turn it one for one match in multiplayer, then click the settings button while in a lobby and you’ll find a drop-down menu containing Realism Mode under Game Settings.

What is Realism Mode in Men of War 2?

Realism Mode makes Men of War 2 much more realistic (surprising, I know). It doesn’t make the game more difficult in a cheap way by adjusting enemy damage or health, but it instead fundamentally changes the rules of the game. Cannons and artillery have limited ranges, units can only carry so much ammunition and weapon matchups matter much more in determining the outcome of a skirmish.

Realism Mode is intended for players who not only have a keen sense of strategy but also have a deep knowledge of every unit’s stats and capabilities. Your units get much weaker in some regards with Realism Mode turned on, but they also get stronger in some ways, too. We recommend messing around in the normal Competitive ruleset for a few hours before enabling Realism Mode so you can get a feel for the unit types and mechanics of Men of War 2.
