After having closed the doors on any further updates or content support, Mega Man X Dive’s offline version, which was announced shortly after the end of service, is due out within the coming weeks. This offline variant of the now closed game is basically the same game as you remember it, just without the need for constant online connection and a few other elements swapped to support a more single-player RPG style of game.

Mega Man X Dive was a decent success when it launched quite some time ago, mainly due to the fact it was a pretty faithful recreation of the classic franchise ported over to phones. It plays a lot like Castlevania or really any other metroidvania you can think of, though a lot faster and full of challenging projectile-spewing enemies to bob and weave between.

It’s tough to say why the original game shut down and lost its popularity, as it truly succeeded at the goal of trying to put the Mega Man experience right into your pocket, but a couple of guesses mostly just span the typical reasoning for mobile titles ending service: lack of funding, server upkeep becoming too expensive, loss of popularity over time, and so on. Most mobile games inevitably end up in the grave after a while, and X Dive was no different, unfortunately.

Luckily, however, Capcom decided that the game was excellent enough to create an offline version that would still allow fans of X Dive to play, even after servers ceased functioning. The offline version does offer some increased drop rates for certain things and other small tweaks to make it more pleasing to play offline, but overall it’s the same game you know and love.

And you can try this offline variant when it finally launches on September 1st!
