May 16 to May 22, 2022
The second half of May 2022 begins and mainly offers the continuation of ongoing content in Pokémon GO: Water Festival 2022 continues until May 20, and nothing new is happening with the bosses of the Level 5 and Mega Raids either. The highlight of the week is for sure the next Community Day featuring a real rock star. Heh. You’ll get it once you read the entry. Find out what’s coming up in Pokémon GO in the week from May 16 to 22, 2022, in our weekly preview.
Spotlight Hour: Magikarp
Tuesday, May 17, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time
Tuesday night’s weekly Spotlight Hour is dedicated to Magikarp. The Water-type is arguably the most unfairly treated Pocket Monster ever – it may only be able to perform the Splash attack, which is absolutely ineffective, but what other Pokémon evolves into Gyarados, huh? Yeah, that’s what we thought. This Spotlight Hour is the perfect opportunity to collect the necessary candies Magikarp requires for this evolution – that’s a whole 400 of them. As a bonus you get twice as many experience points for the evolution of Pokémon as usual. No double-candy, sadly.
GO Battle League: Master League and ML Premier Classic
Tuesday, May 17, 2022, starting at 1 p.m. PDT
In the penultimate week of the current GO Battle League season, the Master League returns to the rotation with the Master League Premier Classic in tow, while Ultra League and Salandit Cup – excuse us, Element Cup – say goodbye. The discipline change is accompanied by the launch of a nice bonus that gives you three times as much stardust for victories throughout the week.
Raid Hour: Tapu Fini
Wednesday, May 18, 2022, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time
There are no surprises for Raid Hour, Poni’s patron Tapu Fini is the sole focus of the weekly event for the second time in a row. During this timeframe, the Legendary Pokémon will appear at all gyms, allowing you to easily complete multiple raids in a row with large groups. Like the previous week, there will unfortunately be no Shiny version available.
Community Day: Alolan Geodude
Rock Pokémon Alolan Geodude will be in the spotlight during Community Day in May 2022. As usual, the event comes with an array of bonuses such as an increased Shiny rate, double catch candies, and triple stardust gain. In addition, Alolan Golem will automatically learn the brand new Rock move Rollout if it evolves during the event or up until two hours later.
Niantic has once again organized a series of community hangouts, often placed near boosted PokéStops – the official map shows you in which cities you’ll find these live events.
