Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gets one big gameplay reveal

The hunt begins this fall

Peter and Miles seem like they’re going to have their hands full saving the city. Sony and Insomniac premiered gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 today, showing off how the duo are working together to tackle the threat of Kraven, and other dangers lurking just below the surface.

Today’s extended spotlight, shown during the PlayStation Showcase, confirms a lot about the Spidey sequel. While Kraven the Hunter looks to be the instigating antagonist of the story, we also see mentions of Prowler, Tombstone, the Lizard, and more. And, as previously confirmed, the Symbiote—though no Venom in this spotlight.

We also get to see both Spider-Men in action today, as Insomniac shows a scene where the player swaps from Peter to Miles. While Peter’s packing some new Symbiote-driven powers that look absolutely brutal for combat, Miles has a bunch of new utility options. A wingsuit (dubbed Web Wings), a powerful web slingshot, and lines of web for stealth sections all look fantastic. It looks like both Spideys have the suit upgrades, as Peter also shows a wingsuit during a high-speed pursuit across the bay.

I’m really into the Spidey-swapping in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and surprised to see how well it works in the moment. Having both Miles and Peter take the spotlight works really well. It also amps up the tension, as Peter seems to be changing a bit thanks to the Symbiote’s influence. Surely nothing bad will come of that, though.

A web to weave

This was a pretty lengthy gameplay reveal, though it didn’t end with a date. On the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac’s Aaron Jason Espinoza says they hope to share a release date soon. But right now, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still broadly set for fall 2023.

Hopefully that window sticks. But Insomniac certainly seems like it’s got a big Spidey adventure in store for whenever Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lands.
