Madden 23 Christmas Downtime Leads To Massive Franchise League Data Loss
60% of Online Franchise leagues will not be recovered, says developer.
Madden 23 players were dealt a savage blow this week as the game experienced a period of unplanned downtime which may lead to the loss of some 60% of players’ Online Franchise league data.
Between Wednesday, December 28 and Thursday, December 29, Madden 23 players who tried to go online and access their Franchise leagues were met with error messages stating that the EA servers were unavailable. This wasn’t part of any planned maintenance on the developer’s part and the result is that many players will lose their save data.
blog post on EA’s official website, one of the developers from the Madden NFL Team posted an update to inform players of the situation.
In a“On Wednesday 12/28 around 2:45 pm EST, Players trying to access the Franchise server were given an error that leagues were unavailable,” the developer wrote. “The issue persisted until 12:45 am EST on Thursday 12/29. Unfortunately, if you logged into Franchise leagues during this time, your data was affected due to a data storage issue that resulted in Franchise files being corrupted.”
“First off, we are sorry that this happened. We know how important your franchises are to you and we are actively working on a fix to restore some files via a backup as soon as possible. However, not all affected leagues can be restored. The team is currently projecting around 40% of leagues to be recovered. We will communicate an updated timeline next week around the potential restoration of save files from a backup.”
The good news, if it can be considered good news, is that if you didn’t log in during the unplanned downtime, your Online Franchise save data should be OK. It’ll come as small consolation for those who did try to get a few games in over the Christmas holidays, though.
The blog post ends by encouraging players who have had their save data corrupted and/or lost to head back into the Online Franchise and start anew as the mode is now back online and functioning properly. There is a slim chance, though, that players may get their original data restored, and the developer stated that an update will be posted to the community next week.
