As confirmed by the official Twitter account of Netflix Anime, Lookism will hit the streaming platform on December 8th, 2022. The initial release date for the series was originally set for November 4th, but was postponed due to the unfortunate incident that took place on October 29th in the Itaewon region of Seoul, where at least 158 people were killed and around 196 injured during a crowd surge, as reported by The New York Times.

Written and illustrated by Park Tae-Joon, Lookism is one of the most renowned webtoon series, which started its original run in November 2014 and is currently running on its nineteenth volume. Given the appraisal it received from fans, the creators decided to create an anime adaptation of the series which will be distributed via Netflix next month.

Alongside the new release date announcement, a new trailer was also released by Netflix. The trailer shows the main character of the series, Daniel Park, waking up in his new attractive body while his clumsy old self is lying on the floor. He then remembers all the insults and bullying he had to face living in an unattractive body and decides to change everything using his new form.

As expected, his life takes a sudden flip, and all the girls in his class feel attracted to him, while boys begin to envy him. Alongside his looks, Daniel also becomes stronger and decides to help those who are going through the same torture that he went through when he lived in his old body. The trailer also features the song “Like That” by the popular South Korean band, Ateez.

Lookism will be animated by Studio Mir, who are well-known for other popular shows and films like DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Harley Quinn, Batman: Soul of the Dragon, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, The Death of Superman, and several other well-known projects. The characters of the upcoming anime are also reportedly inspired by real-life individuals. South Korean model Park Hyung-Seok was the inspiration for Daniel’s character, whilst Jay Hong’s character was inspired by Hong Jae-Yeol. DG’s character drew inspiration from South Korean rapper G-Dragon, Oliver Jang from Jang Dongwoo, and Aru from well-known singer and songwriter UI.

Lookism will release exclusively on Netflix on December 8th.
