The 2023 release calendar rolls on, though today’s launch is coming a little earlier than expected. Lies Of P–the Pinocchio-themed Soulslike action game from Neowiz Games and Round 8 Studios–is now available on Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox vice president of games marketing Aaron Greenberg made the announcement via X, where he posted a picture of the game with the message, “Surprise! Lies Of P is available to play now on Xbox Game Pass!” The game was scheduled to launch tomorrow, September 19, as a day one addition to the subscription service.
Lies Of P sees players take the role of Pinocchio, a robotic “puppet” who must fight against other puppets and humans in search of his creator Geppetto. Unlike other puppets in the game’s world, Pinocchio has the ability to lie, which he must use to his advantage as he travels through the dangerous city of Krat.
The game launched on Xbox and Steam at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, with the PlayStation 5 version scheduled to unlock at 9 PM PT / 12 AM ET tonight. GameSpot’s official review praised the game’s action despite its obvious inspirations, saying “With its bleak reimagining of Pinocchio and a stunning Belle Epoque era setting, Lies of P stands apart even when its gameplay relies on imitation.”
Lies Of P is the latest high-profile addition to the Xbox Game Pass library, as it joins Sea Of Stars, Starfield, and Solar Ash as recent day-one drops. Nine games also recently left the service on September 15, with Metal: Hellsinger and Civilization 6 among the biggest departures.
