LG promises three years of Android updates to these smartphones

NEW DELHI: Earlier this week, LG announced that it will be exiting the smartphone business. Now the company has confirmed that it will provide future Android updates to its smartphones despite the exit.
The company has confirmed that the LG Velvet, LG Wing and G and V series from 2019 or later will get three Android updates from the year of their release. On the other hand, some 2020 models like LG Stylo and K series will receive two software updates.
For instance, LG launched the Velvet smartphone last year with Android 10 out-of-the-box. The company is already working on Android 11 update for the smartphone. But as promised by the company the smartphone will also receive Android 12 and 13 updates.
The South Korean tech giant describes this announcement as a “three-year pledge” and a “three-OS-update guarantee.”
As mentioned above, LG will completely shut down its mobile business and will exit the smartphone market by July 31. The company said that this decision will allow it to use its resources in the growth of other businesses such as smart homes, robotics, AI and electric vehicles.
“Core technologies developed during the two decades of LG’s mobile business operations will also be retained and applied to existing and future products,” the company said.
As per the analysts, LG’s exit from the smartphone business will create more opportunities for Samsung and other rival companies.
