Sonic Origins is bringing the classic and iconic 2D Sonic games back in a single collection, all of them ported beautifully, with multiple playable characters, new sprite work, a lovely presentation, and widescreen support – at last.

Now that these games are all finally up to date, it’s time to break them down again. In this guide we’ve put together a list of cheats you can use to play each game in Sonic Origins, with some information sourced from RetroResolve and AOTF.

Sonic the Hedgehog cheats – Sonic Origins

Sonic the Hedgehog has three main cheat codes for you to enjoy, but they really are particularly good.

Level select and sound test – On the main title screen, press up, down, left, right.
Debug mode – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 01, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02, 03.
Start as Super Sonic – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 04, 01, 02, 06.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cheats – Sonic Origins

The same three cheats are present in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, too. Nice.

Level select and sound test – On the main title screen, press up, up, up, down, down, down, left, right, left, right.
Debug mode – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04.
Start as Super Sonic – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 04, 01, 02, 06.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cheats – Sonic Origins

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is great, and these are the cheats you need for those. Hyper Sonic, heck yes.

Level select and sound test 1 – After Sega logo, before the title screen, press up, up, down, down, up, up, up, up.
Level select and sound test 2 – On the main title screen, press up, up, down, down, up, up, up, up.
Debug mode – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 01, 09, 09, 04, 01, 00, 01, 08.
Start as Super Sonic – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 04, 01, 02, 06.
Start as Hyper Sonic – In the sound test, play these sounds in order: 04, 01, 02, 06. Code must be entered twice.

Debug mode controls – Sonic Origins

Debug mode allows you to fly around a stage and spawn items at will – make a complete mess of things if you want. Here are the controls you need to know.

Debug mode on/off – B on Xbox/Switch, Circle on PlayStation.
Item scroll – A on Xbox/Switch, X on PlayStation.
Place item – X on Xbox/Switch, Square on PlayStation.

Careful with the item scroll – it will be a very long list, including stage foreground elements!

Infinite coins – Sonic Origins

You can use debug mode to spawn a large number of ring boxes, and then smash through them all to take all the rewards for yourself.

You can use this method to get 999 rings, and then complete a stage to rack up coins. You can use spend these in the in-game shop to unlock artwork and music. If you want to unlock everything quickly, this is the best way.
