Layers Of Fear Gameplay Video Shows 11 Minutes Of Good-Looking Horror

Bloober Team has revealed 11 minutes of new gameplay for Layers of Fear, its upcoming collection of the first two games in the series–rebuilt through Unreal Engine 5. This bundle includes all of the DLC, and on the technical side, players can expect numerous graphical and audio improvements, a brand-new chapter in the story, and a more “immersive” horror experience.

One of the big graphical upgrades comes from the use of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen system, as well as ray tracing, HDR, and a 4K resolution to increase the overall tension. New gameplay mechanics will also be introduced, such as a lantern that can be used to uncover spooky stuff that goes bump in the dark, and Bloober is aiming to more cohesively explore the depths of obsession with three different stories of craft-obsessed protagonists.

The new story chapter, The Final Note, introduces the never-before-told story of The Writer and ties in with the psychological horror narrative of The Painter and The Actor. The studio is aiming for these remakes to be the magnum opus of the Layer of Fears games, and it has called this project the “crowning work” of the series and a tribute to fans. Beyond the upgraded graphics, Layers of Fear also features a new haunting soundtrack from Arek Reikowski, who previously worked with Bloober on The Medium.

Announced during Summer Game Fest Live back in 2022, Layers of Fear will launch in June 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and is being co-developed by Anshar Studios alongside Bloober Team.
