If you plan to reach the endgame in Last Epoch, you’ll probably want to know more about the Monolith of Fate. So how exactly does this work, and what is it? Here’s everything you need to know about the Monolith of Fate.

What is the Monolith of Fate in Last Epoch?

The Monolith of Fate in Last Epoch is an endgame feature and system allowing you to engage in repeatable endgame activities after the campaign. It’s essentially a large collection of timelines with branching and alternating nodes. Navigating these timelines and beating them will leave you with rewards for beating tough bosses. Upon completing them you can also receive a blessing for random buffs.

You can access the Monolith of Fate by reaching a place called “The End of Time” during the campaign. In this area, you can enter the Monolith of Fate through a portal, but it’s not advised to engage with this feature until you finish the campaign. It contains high-level enemies that you won’t be able to beat at the level you discover this place, so I’d wait until then.

Once inside the Monolith of Fate, you’ll see various islands, which are the timelines. You’ll only have one timeline unlocked at first, but once you play through the timeline you’ll unlock new paths and make progress towards other islands.

Echoes and nodes

Inside each timeline is a collection of nodes, and you can complete individual nodes for rewards. They’re called Echoes, which are random maps with specific objectives to complete to get to other nodes. These objectives will always revolve around defeating enemies, but there are different ways you’ll go about it.

Your Echo web is procedurally generated per each timeline, which you can also reset after killing the Shade of Orobyss (who can also drop cool items such as the Siphon of Anguish). You’ll find this enemy in Echo of a World nodes, and defeating them will also grant Corruption into the timeline.

Corruption will buff enemy health, damage, and their overall level, but in return gained EXP and item rarities will increase for you. With each timeline also comes different modifiers, which can affect both enemies and players. So while the enemies will gain a buff or two, you will as well.

There are also special echoes within the timelines, and upon completing those echoes you’ll earn rewards such as a special Unique, and a new feature that will adjust the timeline. Here are all the types of special echoes:

  • Beacon Echo: Reveals other echoes in a radius around the node.
  • Echo of a World: Resets the web and adds Corruption.
  • Vessel of Chaos: Rerolls rewards for all uncompleted nodes.
  • Vessel of Memory Fade: Resets all completed echoes to replay them and gain more rewards.

Quest echoes and stability

Completing echoes will add more stability to the timeline. You’ll want higher stability to complete quests, of which there are three per timeline. All three quests require a certain amount of stability, with the third quest requiring the most amount of stability (which also will be a boss battle).

Unlike the web, these quests are not procedurally generated, but instead static to each timeline. Once you defeat the final boss and complete the third quest echo, you’ll be able to unlock a new timeline, as well as receive a blessing.

Empowered timelines

The final thing you should learn about the Monolith of Fate is Empowered Timelines. Once you complete the three level 90 timelines (Spirits of Fire, The Age of Winter, The Last Ruin) you can activate the Empowered versions of these timelines. This will boost all timelines to level 100, and it’ll also start Corruption at level 100.

During Empowered timelines, the difficulty increases, you’ll gain access to Sanctuary of Eterra special echoes (lowers Corruption in the timeline), bosses will be able to drop exclusive Uniques, and you’ll get Empowered Blessings for better buffs.

Now that you know more about the Monolith of Fate in Last Epoch, you should also learn about Weaver’s Will and Legendary Potential.
