Nothing but chill camping vibes perfect for summer.
Popular anime series Laid-Back Camp is receiving a theatrical movie that will be aired in Japan in summer 2022. It is expected to continue the story of the anime’s two television seasons. Original cast and staff members from anime studio C-Station are expected to make a return for the film, with careful creative management of the story’s creator. No release date has yet been confirmed for other markets.
This cozy story first started publishing in manga form by talented mangaka, Afro, back in 2015. Two girls form an unexpected friendship when Nadeshiko, a high school student, decides to take a biking trip to see the famous Mount Fuji. However, her plans go awry when she passes out on the way to her destination, eventually waking up and not knowing where she is or how to get home. Nadeshiko comes across a solo camper, Rin, who prefers to camp by herself. The story takes a turn when the two girls bond over their love of camping and decide to make a camping club with friends and travel to campsites across the country.
The snug, slice-of-life feeling of the story was perceived well by readers and garnered the manga its first television anime adaptation in 2018. The anime was met with critical acclaim and received a second season in 2021. A lot of the praise for the series revolved around the story’s simplicity and focus on the sights of Japan.
Visual teasers were released along with the announcement of the upcoming movie, depicting the beautiful view of the Japanese Alps and a sneak peek of the characters, particularly the titular duo, Nadeshiko and Rin. Just looking at the teaser makes me want to start a camping club of my own:
