Producer Junzo Hosoi says that more time will be needed to make the game a “fitting finale” to the Atelier Ryza saga.

The release of Koei Tecmo’s upcoming JRPG Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key has been delayed, according to a tweet posted today by the developer’s official Twitter account. Originally slated for a February release, the much-anticipated third arc in the Atelier Ryza saga will now be released on March 23 in Japan, with the worldwide launch to follow a day later on March 24.

The decision to delay the game comes from producer Junzo Hosoi. In a message published today (translated by Gematsu), Hosoi states that more time will be needed to polish the game and make it a “fitting finale” to the Atelier Ryza saga. Hosoi has apologized for the delay on behalf of the Atelier Ryza development team, and thanked fans for remaining patient in the months leading up to the game’s launch.

In the message, Hosoi also discusses the challenges and difficulties the Atelier Ryza development team has faced when working on the game. One of these was the colossal task of engineering the game’s sprawling, verdant world. Another challenge Hosoi mentions was one of graphics, how to create florid, vivacious visuals that could accurately capture the characters’ brimming vitality.

The Atelier Ryza saga – and truly, the Atelier series as a whole – is renowned among JRPG aficionados for its rich, decadent character designs and world-building, and it seems Atelier Ryza 3 will be honoring this series tradition, if not embracing it wholeheartedly.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key will be the third and final game in Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Ryza saga. Set a year after the events of the second game, Atelier Ryza 3 places players into the well-worn shoes of series heroine Ryza Stout herself. Written by veteran Atelier writer Yashichiro Takahashi, the story of the game begins when Ryza and her friends notice that a sequence of islands has suddenly, inexplicably appeared off the shores of their home. Astounded by the mystery, they set off on an adventure to solve it.

Atelier Ryza 3 boasts four fully traversable regions, as well as a grand total of eleven party members, the most of any Atelier Ryza game thus far. At launch, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
